*Wait 2 hours and gently scrape off.

Recipe #2 - For a light henna tattoo design that may last a week to 10 days -

*Put henna powder in a cup.
*Boil 1/2 cup of water.
*Pour over a tea bag and let sit for 5 minutes.
*Add a little at a time to the henna powder & mix thoroughly.
*Let sit for an hour.
*Apply to clean dry skin.

Recipe #3 - My favorite henna recipe -

*Place about 2-3 tablespoons henna powder in a glass, ceramic, or for best results a cast iron bowl (henna may stain wood or plastic).
*Boil 1 to 1-1/2 cups of water.
*Add 2 tea bags & Let steep for 5 minutes.
*Add 4-6 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice or pre mixed lemon concentrate to the henna.
*Mix well - mixture should resemble a thick cookie dough.
*Slowly add the hot tea to the mixture & stir well to avoid lumps.
*Mixture should be a tad thinner than toothpaste.
*Cover & let sit for about 4 hours.

The Henna Plant
The Henna Plant

1 - Apply a mixture of lemon juice and sugar with a q-tip or cotton ball to the design keeping it moist, be careful not to apply to much or the paste will run. *Alternate with warm heat (ie: blow dryer, stove burner, or even a candle - be careful of course).

2 - If you are serious about wanting a dark long lasting design, keep the henna on for at least 6 hours or longer if you can. The longer the better.

3 - The above 2 suggestions may test your patience, but they are highly effective! After sufficient time, gently pick or scrape the the henna off with the back of a butter knife or finger, DO NOT wash off unless you decide you want a lighter design or you left the paste on overnight.

4 - After you remove the henna, you may gently (there's that word again) rinse the area with warm water to remove the sticky lemon/sugar, apply oil if you have it.

5 -Try not to use soap on the area for at least a day, this allows the henna to completely absorb into the skin.
